About Yemi Akere

Cybersecurity practitioner. Educator. Researcher. Author.

I work at the intersection of cybersecurity operations, governance, risk, emerging technology, and education. YemiAkere.org is where I step outside the headlines to examine what developments in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence actually mean in practice.

Practice informs the perspective.

My perspective on cybersecurity has been shaped by more than a decade of working across security operations, governance, risk, compliance, cybersecurity program leadership, and advisory work. Today, my professional work includes cybersecurity consulting and higher education, giving me the opportunity to examine security problems from both practitioner and educator perspectives.

I hold a Doctor of Engineering in Cybersecurity Analytics, with research focused on anomaly detection in connected and industrial environments. My professional credentials include CISSP, CISA, QSA, ECSA, CCSFP, and CDPSE, supported by experience in security assessment, cyber risk, governance, security operations, and advisory work.

Before my civilian cybersecurity career, I served in the United States Navy. That experience continues to influence how I think about discipline, operational readiness, accountability, and the difference between controls that look effective on paper and systems that actually have to work under pressure.

What I write about

I focus on the areas where technology, risk, security operations, and emerging threats intersect — especially when the practical implications are more important than the headline itself.

Cybersecurity & Threats

Emerging attacks, vulnerabilities, major incidents, defensive trends, and what practitioners should pay attention to beyond the headline.

Artificial Intelligence & Security

AI agents, AI-enabled attacks, governance, model and application security, automation, and the changing security boundaries introduced by intelligent systems.

Risk, Governance & Resilience

Cyber risk, regulation, security frameworks, third-party dependencies, operational resilience, and the gap between compliance and effective security.

The Cybersecurity Profession

Security operations, analyst workload, workforce development, education, leadership, and the realities of practicing cybersecurity.

Why YemiAkere.org exists

There is no shortage of cybersecurity news. The harder problem is deciding what deserves attention.

I created YemiAkere.org as a place to slow the news cycle down just enough to ask better questions: What actually happened? Why does it matter? What is signal and what is hype? Who is affected? And what should security practitioners and leaders be thinking about next?

I do not intend this site to be the fastest source of breaking news. There are excellent publications that already do that. My goal is different: to evaluate developments through a practitioner’s lens, connect them to the broader security landscape, and leave the reader with a clearer understanding than when they arrived.

Evaluated. Distilled. Explained.
